Allow roughly 15–25 standard cartons. JB's practical starting package uses 25: 15 medium boxes for books, kitchenware and everyday items, plus 10 large boxes for linen and lighter bulky goods. Add a porta-robe when hanging clothes should stay on rails.
Allow roughly 30–45 standard cartons. JB starts at 45: 25 medium and 20 large boxes, plus 2 porta-robes. A lightly furnished apartment may use less; a house with a study, children, outdoor items or storage will usually sit near the upper end.
Allow roughly 50–70 standard cartons. JB's family starting point uses 70: 40 medium and 30 large boxes, plus 3 porta-robes. Choose the lower end for a compact, decluttered home; use the full starting point for a well-stocked kitchen, children's rooms, books or garage contents.
Allow roughly 70–90+ standard cartons. The current editable JB family package starts at 70 cartons and 3 porta-robes; add another 10–20 cartons when the home has multiple wardrobes, a double garage, a large kitchen, outdoor equipment or stored belongings.
For the most reliable move, use clean, strong, consistent-size cartons from a removalist, box retailer, hardware store or storage supplier. Free reused cartons can reduce cost, but inspect them for damp, pests, crushed corners and weak bases. JB lets you choose a complete package or only the brand-new boxes and protection materials you need.
